The following is a very brief guide to the care products that are available to help people with turning taps on and off or getting a key into the lock. However, please note that this guidance is only very general and every individual's needs are different. Customers should base their purchasing decisions on the user's particular needs and preferences and, where appropriate, upon advice from medical and care professionals.
Anyone with reduced strength in their arms, wrists or fingers will know the frustration of trying to turn a wet, smooth-sided tap, a small key or a stiff door handle or cooker control. To address the problem, designers have produced various solutions, from 'cross-head' style grips that fit taps with X-shaped handles, to adjustable knob turners, clamps and gadgets that will take a tenacious hold on taps, door handles and cooker controls of all shapes and sizes. There are tap turners to suit almost every style of handle - crystal tops, Derby handles and simple round ones - but bear in mind that properties often feature more than one kind. Simplicity and robustness are good characteristics to look for - a sturdy plastic lever that fits a single tap has very little to go wrong - but if you need more versatility, then an adjustable product is one to consider.
