Top tips to help with toileting for independent living
If the current lockdown means you’re now living with less support at home, there are many effective products which can help with various activities of daily life – including toileting.

Perhaps you are living with a long-term health condition which affects your mobility and can make it difficult to get to the toilet in time. Or, maybe you have been diagnosed with a bladder problem, such as urge incontinence or nocturia (needing to pee a lot during the night). Whatever issues you’re experiencing, Complete Care Shop have a range of products to help make toileting safer and easier for you.

How to stay safe and independent without rushing to the toilet

The risk of tripping and falling is much greater if you’re making a mad dash to the toilet and the last thing any of us wants right now is a journey to the local hospital. Luckily, there are toileting options available to help.

If you spend a lot of time in bed and find that getting to the bathroom is challenging, our Economy Male Urinal means you can go to the toilet without leaving your bedroom. This can be particularly useful at night, where falls on the way to the bathroom are more likely due to poor lighting – or not being quite awake. We also offer a Non-Spill Female Urinal which has an ergonomic adapter that fits directly onto the urinal’s neck and is most easily used by sitting on the edge of the bed. You may also feel more comfortable using this in combination with a Kylie Bed Pad to protect your bedding against accidental spills or leaks.

If you’re mobility is not as restricted, but a health condition, such as urge incontinence, makes it difficult for you to reach the bathroom in time, it’s a good idea to keep a commode in your living room so you don’t have as far to go when you need the toilet. This can be especially handy if the only toilet you have is upstairs, as it may help reduce the risk of falls whilst climbing the staircase.

A Folding Commode is straightforward to set up and put away, making it a convenient toileting option for anyone wishing to be discreet. It’s also very light to carry, reducing the risk of falls through overbalancing. It can be used in combination with our Care Bag Commode Liners, which are a more hygienic alternative to cleaning a commode pan after every use  and they have an integrated drawstring to help prevent odours.
