Pressure relieving mattresses can also be used preventively for those at risk due to frailty, age, or prolonged bed rest.

A pressure mattress uses alternating air-filled or foam cells to relieve pressure. The alternating pressure cycles distribute body weight and reduce pressure on vulnerable areas. Some mattresses have adjustable firmness, pressure control settings, or customised options. They may also feature waterproof, breathable covers for moisture prevention and easy cleaning.
