A bed pan is a container used to collect urine or faeces, shaped to fit under a person lying or sitting in bed. It can be made of metal, glass, ceramic, plastic, or moulded pulp.
They can help with toileting when your mobility is limited as you won't need to leave your bed to use one.
Someone who is unable to leave bed or struggles to get to the bathroom from the bedroom in time may benefit from using a bed pan.
You should consider carefully whether you want a washable or disposable bed pan, and whether you would prefer one with or without a lid.
