Pressures sores – also known as bed sores or pressure ulcers – are damage to the skin, generally caused by a combination of consistent pressure and friction.

It can affect anyone but you’re at an increased risk of getting them if you spend long periods in bed or in a wheelchair or are older and have fragile skin.

Left untreated a pressure sore can go from a mild irritation to a serious medical concern, one that could take a long time to heal.

What can you do to help prevent pressure sores?

Aside from moving and changing position as much as you can to help relieve pressure, you may want to consider investing in a pressure sore prevention and treatment option like the Parafricta range.

What makes Parafricta products different?

Parafricta products are clinically proven to protect skin against the shear and friction that can cause or worsen pressure sores. When their bootees were trialled at St Helen’s and Knowsley Hospital the results were so good that they considered it unethical not to continue using them!

One of the key things that sets Parafricta apart from the rest is their unique, low friction fabric that feels very comfortable against the skin. This fabric isn’t coated, which means you can put all the Parafricta products in the washing machine so you can use them again and again. The secret lies in the special weave.

What kinds of products are available?

The Parafricta range includes:

Bootees

Available two versions: slip on and Velcro, these bootees both have a non-slip sole and are lightweight, breathable, and flexible so your movement isn’t restricted.

Undergarments

Parafricta undergarments come in two styles: boxer shorts and briefs. The briefs also come with a Velcro option to make it even easier to put them on. All the undergarments are compatible with incontinen-ce pads too.

Bedding

You can get pillowcases and fitted or flat sheets, which are available in a variety of sizes so you can be sure to find the right size for your bed. They don’t look any different to normal bedding so no one would be able to tell the difference

My mother is 90 years old and has been immobile for just over a year. She developed red pressure marks on her heels in November. The district nurse gave her foam protective heel covers but these did not keep in place well. The redness got no worse with this treatment but also did not improve. The special new bootees...kept on well and within a few days the redness was diminished and was completely gone after about ten nights of use. She continues to wear the bootees each night and her heels are remaining in a good condition
