About Bubble PEP
Bubble PEP (Positive Expiratory Pressure) is a method used for chest physiotherapy and helps to clear secretions like phlegm or sputum from the lungs. This is especially helpful for people with conditions such as Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), who need to do chest physiotherapy regularly.
Traditional Bubble PEP devices are complex to clean – made up of a bottle and tubing. They can be challenging for children to use without help, and create a lot of plastic waste with regular replacements needed in medical environments.
How HydroBubble works
The HydroBubble produces vibrations in the lungs by blowing through the tube to create bubbles in the water in the bottle. The vibrations loosen secretions in the lungs, and helps to move them to larger airways where they can be cleared more easily with a cough or huff. Clearing the secretions also helps to reduce infections.
If you or the person you care for needs to use a Bubble PEP, the HydroBubble could be your perfect choice. It’s reusable and easier to clean than other Bubble PEP devices: dishwasher safe and featuring a cleaning brush for the flexible tube. It’s less expensive than other devices, without compromising on quality – plus you don’t need to keep replacing it, saving money and reducing the environmental impact. The bottle itself is also recyclable and BPA free.
Great for both adults and children and extremely well received, the HydroBubble can be used either whilst hanging by the integrated handle, or flat on a surface. It’s highly portable and can be used anywhere – indoors and outdoors.
How to use:
- Position the tube in the bottle – make sure the bottle is upright on a surface, hanging by the handle, or held by hand
- Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose
- Blow out through the tube, making sure you keep a good seal around it with your lips, for as long as possible to create bubbles in the water
Top tip: to make it extra fun, you can add food colouring, washing up liquid, or glitter!
Safety
Do not use a Bubble PEP unless instructed by your medical professional. Ensure you clean the HydroBubble after each use. Solutions such as Milton may be safely used to sterilise all parts. Allow it to dry completely after cleaning, and ensure it’s stored in a dry, hygienic place out of direct sunlight.
