With the turn of the seasons comes new weather challenges to deal with, which can sometimes be tricky to manage when you use a mobility aid. To help you get a mobility aid that’s up to the task of dealing with inclement weather, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourites to get you through the colder months.
The HurryCane is designed to help you across a variety of different terrains, offering incredible balance and traction. It has a three-point base, meaning it’s freestanding, so if you let go of it, it won’t topple over (saving you from having to try and pick it up again). This unique pivoting base is set up to help you with walking – giving you support and stability at any angle.
The sturdy HurryCane Walking Stick is made of solid aluminium and has eight different height settings. When not in use, it’s collapsible and can be stored away.
Self-propelling a wheelchair in the colder months can be hard on your hands. Keep them cosy and protected with a pair of Supergrip Wheelchair Gloves. These full finger gloves are incredibly durable and hardwearing having been designed specially for use with self-propelled wheelchairs with metal push rims.
They’re waterproof and have an elasticated cuff to keep the cold and damp at bay while you’re out and about. They also have roughened, padded palm and thumb sections to give you the best grip – even when it’s wet.
Looking for a robust shopping trolley to help you bring your shopping home? The Andersen Scala Shopper – Hera can carry up to 6.3st (40kg) in weight, making it great for bringing home heavy bags of potatoes and vegetables!
It has a steel frame with a foldable handle. Its bag is water resistant and is easy to remove from the frame. This useful shopping trolley also has reflectors to help make it easier for other people around you to spot you once the sun sets.
This all-terrain rollator is far from the standard rollator you might expect. For one, it can transform into a wheelchair, making it a great option to consider if you can walk short distances with support but also need to take frequent rests. This ability to transform means that the Rollz Motion Performance Rollator has been designed with comfort in mind, with extra soft armrests and a wedge-shaped seat that’s thicker at the front. This seat shape helps to tilt your pelvis back slightly while you’re sitting, helping you to avoid unnecessary aches and pains.
The Rollz Motion Performance Rollator is a luxury mobility aid designed to help you get where you need to go, whether that’s under your own power or with a bit of extra help.
If you’re dealing with a high step to get into your home, you may find a half step useful to help bridge the gap and reduce your risk of falling as you step down or step up. The Bigfoot Half Step has been designed to withstand being outdoors and is suitable for those weighing up to 35st (220kg), so you can trust that it won’t let you down.
Is the ground a touch uneven outside your door? Each of the four feet on the Bigfoot Half Step are independently adjustable, so it can be made level even if the ground isn’t.
A strategically placed grab rail can help make it that little bit easier when entering or leaving your home, offering you support when you need it most. The Prima Outdoor Grab Rail is a great option to consider as it’s fully weather resistant and won’t rust, meaning it’ll be there for you whatever the season throws at you.
It has special soft grip moulding that help reduce the risk of your hand slipping on it, even when it’s wet. It’s also incredibly strong, thanks to being reinforced by the internal aluminium tube. When buying a grab rail, it’s highly recommended to get a professional to fit it for you and to make sure the correct fittings are used for the type of wall it’s being placed on.
When the weather takes a turn for the worst it’s important to be wrapped up well and keep the worst of the elements off you. If you use a wheelchair, getting a suitable coat to keep both yourself and your chair dry isn’t exactly easy. This mac is designed for wheelchair users, to keep you and your chair dry and cosy.
The high-quality cotton lining helps to protect you from the wind, while the mac’s seams are sealed to make sure it’s waterproof. It also includes knitted cuffs on the sleeves to help keep the heat in and prevent draughts. If your wheelchair is attendant-propelled, the mac has vents in the back to allow access to the handles.
Threshold ramps can help to make it easier to get in and out of doorways. This ramp is particularly handy as it can also be folded up so that it can be transported around to use where needed. The anti-slip surface helps make sure that it’s safe to use whatever the weather.
It has a capacity of 55st (350kg), making it suitable for many different types of mobility aid. As an added bonus, its unique design automatically adjusts the ramp as it’s placed, without you having to make lots of adjustments yourself.
Let the Drive Envoy 8 Scooter get you from A to B in comfort and style. Its puncture-proof tyres help to keep you on the move, safe in the knowledge that you won’t be stopped in your tracks by an irritating puncture.
